As our exploration for a “new home” was in full-search mode, our team was contacted with an idea we had never thought of. The staff-team at First Baptist Church of Kettering (FBK) floated an idea of utilizing space within the lower level of an off-shoot church plant, The Church at Eastmont. At first we were unsure of the idea, quite frankly, not all too excited about the idea as it didn’t have garage door type access. Nevertheless, our team went there for a site-visit. We could see the potential, but the space needed work.
The FBK-Eastmont team was excited about the possibility of allowing us to utilize their space to help impact our community. Their excitement overflowed and became our excitement. Before we knew it, they had a team of staff & volunteers beginning minor demolition work to create a “perfect” space for us. This team partnered with Rock Creek Renovation, who DONATED a lot of time/cost to the church, in order to ultimately help us.
That’s not all! Booher Carpet & Rug provided a discount to the church when they found out that the space was going to be used by S4TS.
The space that we are now using is PERFECT. We have plenty of space to store our inventory of shoes and socks, a conference room to hold meetings in (can fit 10), and a place to welcome volunteers & donors. It is well lit, heated in the winter, cool in the summer, and allows us to continue to serve our community through a simple gift of shoes and socks for children in desperate need.
So we are overjoyed and filled with lots of gratitude to all who have made this happen.
